Sep 18, 2015  In executing my Music composition program in Windows 10, the program indicates that NO MIDI output device is assigned. I will assign one. I am offered either of two choices, both worked in my Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit system. These are: MIDI Mapper or Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth. In either case I get the following error. Classic Organ Works MIDI Medic 0.9 - MIDI Medic is a diagnostic tool for Microsoft Windows that captures, or 'dumps', MIDI data to your screen.MIDI Medic captures and displays MIDI data being sent to the selected MIDI port on your PC. The user to send MIDI messages out of a selected MIDI port. The MIDI Mapper receives messages sent to it by the low-level MIDI output functions midiOutShortMsg and midiOutLongMsg. The MIDI Mapper modifies these messages and redirects them to a MIDI output device according to the current MIDI setup map. The current MIDI setup map is selected by the user by means of the MIDI Control Panel option. CoolSoft MIDIMapper is the missing (and needed) MIDI Mapper for Windows 8, 8.1, 10. It installs as a MIDI Output device and forces itself as MIDI device #0 (read below for an explanation). It can be managed with a configuration panel accessible from Control Panel or its Start menu icon.

It could be that the MIDI mapper is not compatible with Windows 10.

As far as I am aware, these functions/programs were and still should be part of Windows, not the programs from which they are invoked. I have on occasion installed different Synths but the defaults have always been provided as part of Windows. They seem to be missing or found elsewhere under a different name, perhaps? Compatibility checks show nothing found relative to these.
